The First Private Museum
In China

  Museum of Ancient pottery Civilization is located in south area in Beijing, is the first private museum in China . This museum was founded in October of 1996, and was formally opened to the public in June 15, 1997, and at same year join in the "Chinese Museum Association", and began to be a member of the world museum family. All the relics exhibited here and all the charge of establi-shing and operation is non-governmental, so it's a completely private museum. The exhibition hall of this Ancient Pottery Civiliza-tion Museum is 400 square metros, and yearly exhibited pottery wares about 600 pieces of Neolithic Age, Thou, In, Han and Tang dynasty, many of them are rather rare and precious.

Museum of ancient pottery is one of 4 private museums in China mainland,which as the first batch of private museums were formally approved by Administration Bureau for Museum and Archaeological Data of Beijing municipality,so it is a registered institution. Its duty scope of activators is as follow: collection and exhibition of ancient cultural relic; academic research; propaganda; protection; appraisal; development; renovation; related service.

The whole exhibition is composed of four parts: color pottery, eave's tile,clay seal and ancient pottery, and especially clay seal of Qin dynasty is being firstly found in China , and being regarded as great and important archaeological find to Qin dynasty's culture researching. Clay seal of Qin dynasty offered us great historical information and data of Qin dynasty, and is regarded as the initial Officials' Name List and geological document of unified ancient China.

Introduction of collection

Down there is a three-legged color pottery ware, the figure is rather unique and rare: the frog pattern appeared natural and graceful, with polished smooth surface, make people hardly to believe it's already 5000 years from nowadays.

    The upper one is a double-handled color pottery pot, with its marvelous figure, mystical pattern and wonderful color, over 4000years but still own it's great charm. it is really a perfect color pottery ware.

“Zhuque” (red bird) eave's tile , one of four-beasts group eave's tiles; they are: dark blue dragon, white tiger, red bird, and black turtles, all of them are changed a lot in figure, not same as today they're like, had added people's imagination inside, they are frequently used into decoration to the grand architecture for indicating the directions, and to play the role of keeping out of evil from it. “Zhuque”means: south area , down place, summer and red color.

"Jin Wu" means the sun bird, is respected as a totem to sun by the ancestors of Qin dynasty. "Jin Wu" eave's tile is one of the "sun bird and moon rabbit"group tiles, was found in Chunhua county, Shaanxi province. This one looks majestic but no lace of minute description, very much precious.

"Li" is a kind of cocker,beginning at late of Neolithic Age, and is prosperous in Qin dynasty.It was found almost in all the historical ruins in Qin and began to be a special and unique ancient ware which appeared different shape,pattern and style according to the different region, nationality and period.

This big pottery "Lei" gives the look of powerful and majestic. This stamped pottery "Lei" of Yan state is large in size on which there're five layers of painting with the designs of abstract cloud, sun, water wave, the graphs of playing wild beasts and birds chasing after fishes. All these reflected the ancient people's knowledge about the astronomy, expressed ancient people's opinion about heaven and universe.
